This last trip we were finally able to acquire the necessary
information to get started growing red worms for liquid fertilizer and
humus production. We were able to borrow 1000 worms for 6 months at no
cost. According to plans at the end of that time period we should have
approximately 5000 worms. The remaining 4000 worms will provide the
necessary worm stock to begin multiplying the resource. The liquid
fertilizer is very good on flowering plants and the humus is an
excellent fertilizer for ground application. This new way of
fertilization is organic and very cost effective. Our hope is that it
will be a catalyst and eventually change the way the Tzotzil do their
farming.
